About B.V.R.I.
Balwant Vidyapeeth Rural Institute (BVRI) is a Higher Education Institute (NAAC accredited Post Graduate College in Rural Studies) in the field of Rural Development Education and Research. BVRI was established with the sponsorship of Ministry of Education by the first Government of India after independence under the leadership of the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, following the recommendations of the University Education Commission (1948-49) under the chairmanship of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and the Committee of Higher Education of Rural Areas (1955) in 1956. The institute functioned as such under the auspices of the National Council for Rural Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India till its affiliation with Agra University (presently, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra) in 1971(https://www.indiaculture.gov.in/flipbook/1714 & 2153 ) . Dr. R K Singhji, the founder Principal/Director was a known philanthropist, educationist and a man with a mission for service to the society to mitigate the problem of unemployment and poverty amongst the rural youth.
It was envisioned as one of the 14 special type institutes established for the studies of rural development and co-operation education and research in the country along with fulfilling the requirement in nation building process through trained human resource after independence. Others are – Gandhigram, Shantiniketan, Amaravati, Mouni Vidyapeeth, Lok Bharati, Vidya Bhavan(Udaipur), Jamia Millia Islamia etc.
Special features of BVRI which distinguishes them from other similar institutions-

Balwant Vidyapeeth Rural Institute functions as an affiliated Institute of Dr B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra w.e.f. July 1971. The BVRI is the only privileged Institution of this type in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Institute is situated 7 kms away from the municipal limits of the city, Agra in the rural area named Bichpuri(previously, Balwantpuri). It is now State Government Aided Post Graduate College of 66 years, known for its prestigious contributions in teaching and research in Rural Education and development. It is accredited with GRADE “B” by UGC-NAAC) and is recognized by the UGC under 2 (f) and 12 (B).
